Approach

How we deliver window treatments.

Motorised window treatments are one of the most satisfying upgrades in any smart homes Perth project. They open with the sun, close for the cinema, and lower for privacy without a word said.

We specify quiet Lutron and Somfy motors, integrated with the lighting and AV system so the experience is seamless.

The single biggest quality-of-life change is the automatic morning open: bedroom blinds up over 90 seconds at sunrise, kitchen and living blinds up over 3 minutes on a staggered schedule. Wakes the household with light, not an alarm, and takes the west-facing rooms off the afternoon heat before it becomes a problem.

For Perth's coastal homes we design around salt air (stainless motor cassettes, powder-coated brackets, marine-grade tracks), and for west-facing rooms we heavily prefer external shades or dual-fabric internal treatments - a single translucent blind can't do both privacy and glare in a room facing the Indian Ocean at 5pm.

Motor choice matters more than most homeowners realise. Cheap import motors are noisy at close range and typically fail within 5-7 years. Lutron Sivoia QS and Somfy Sonesse 40 RTS are effectively silent (28-38dB) and warrantied for a decade. We stopped installing anything below that tier five years ago.

Fabrics and hardware chosen for the room's job.

Every window has a job. Bedrooms want blockout for sleep. West-facing living rooms want glare control without blocking the view. Bathrooms want privacy without losing the light. Kitchens want easy-clean fabric. We specify fabric, opacity and system on a room-by-room basis rather than defaulting to one fabric for the house.

For high-end homes we also design dual-fabric systems - translucent for daytime glare control, blockout for privacy and sleep - on a single track.

  • 01Blockout, translucent, screen (1-10% openness) and dual-fabric options.
  • 02Roller blinds, romans, cellular, curtains, external shades.
  • 03Stainless and marine-grade for coastal homes.
  • 04Colour-matched cassettes and pelmets to hide the hardware.

Silent motors, integrated with everything.

Lutron Sivoia QS is the quietest motor we install (28dB, effectively inaudible in a bedroom). Somfy Sonesse 40 RTS and DC are the workhorses. Both integrate with Lutron, Control4, Crestron, Home Assistant and Apple Home so blinds are part of scenes, not a separate app.

Battery-powered options exist for retrofits where cabling isn't possible, though we always prefer hardwired for reliability.

  • 01Sivoia QS (silent), Somfy DC (near-silent), Somfy RTS (retrofit).
  • 02Integrated with Lutron, Control4, Crestron and Home Assistant.
  • 03Solar-cell recharged battery motors for retrofit rooms.
  • 04External Ziptrak and Ceduna for verandah and pergola shading.

Scenes and schedules that suit each home.

Blinds should never move at the same clock time every day. We schedule to civil dusk and civil dawn (adjusts through the year), pause opening on days above 35°C to keep the house cool, and hold blinds down in Cinema mode until the film ends.

Every install includes a scene walkthrough at handover and a return-visit tuning session after a few weeks of real use.

FAQs

Frequently asked.

Quick answers to what Perth clients ask about window treatments. Anything we haven't covered? Get in touch.

Can I motorise existing blinds?

Sometimes - depends on the fabric width, weight and track. It's usually more reliable and looks better to replace with a Lutron or Somfy motorised system than retrofit.

Are motorised blinds noisy?

Sivoia QS is 28dB (effectively silent). Somfy DC is 38dB (quiet). Cheap import motors are 45-55dB and audible from anywhere in the room - we don't install them.

Battery or hardwired?

Hardwired is more reliable and we prefer it for new builds. Battery-powered Somfy is the retrofit answer where cabling isn't practical - recharged every 2-3 years.

How much do motorised blinds cost in Perth?

Per window: $550-$1,200 for Somfy roller, $1,400-$2,800 for Sivoia QS silent. Whole house of 15-20 blinds: $12-30k typical, $40k+ for silent+dual-fabric.
